Considering that the modules here are made to be tried, not installed and that it is necessary, if only for security reasons, to buy the modules used on a shop, and that there is no sub-forum dedicated to discussions for prestashop, I'm starting a topic to discuss the quality of the different teams developing prestashop modules.
There seem to be big differences in quality between the teams.
From what I've been able to test, there are a lot of modules that present major problems, either in terms of security or support, by trying to charge for a fix that should go without saying and be included in the official updates of the modules, or the translations that are announced as being present are shamefully bad.
Worse still, some make modules that seem unfinished, or full of bugs, lacking in logic, or not even integrating with the original Prestashop theme.
For those who are planning to buy modules for their final online shop, I invite anyone to share their experience of this.
What I've noticed is that a name and a big team doing a lot of modules doesn't always do a good job, and that small developers sometimes do excellent work, and vice versa.
Overall, I see the majority of modules from ETS/PrestaHero, Knowband and FME coming back here.
ETS/PrestaHero: seem to me to offer the most complete and accomplished modules, and the higher price seems justified. However, I've already come across bugs with some of the modules I've tried, which can prevent me from creating/modifying products and categories, or incompatibilities between their own modules. But update almost always fix major bugs, and improve modules, with new settings/features if necessary.
However, the translations are often quite good, support too.
Knowband: the modules are polished and nice, but not necessarily well finished, they lack visual adjustments, and sometimes the translations don't apply or can't be done. Generally speaking, nothing too serious. On the other hand, support is at a bare minimum, and if you ask for anything you'll be asked to pay several hundred dollars. The translations are just about right, but nothing more.
FME: A disaster. Most of the modules have bugs (and bad development logic) that can compromise prestashop's operation in production, the finishing touches are minimal, and there are a lot of bugs in the translations, done with something worse than google translate, and responsive design is almost everytime very bad. (Especially on smartphones)
Worse still, new versions generally don't seem to solve the major problems.
It's almost as if their strategy is to offer something worse than the minimum and then overcharge for the full module when you've already bought it.
And what about you? What's your feedback, whether general or specific to one or more modules you've tried or bought?
