If you have a very large portofolio with products, and a high budget to invest in hosting, development etc you can chose magento. For starters or medium, prestashop fits perfect.

Prestashop is a nightmare : really big security flaws, I can't count how many time my website was down because of random updaptes... And the worst, I can't understand how they are able to come out with a ecommerce cms, but have major mandarory features such as GDPR modules or terms and agreements checkbox not included in the basic pack. You are supposed to pay for that. Unbelivable.

i never used magento but for me Prestashop is a mess. Things don't work as supposed to do. PostUpdate for some reason works BEFORE the full update

I think better prestashop than magento. Also, now in 2024 magento belongs to ADOBE and I do not think it is very good to use magento for this.
