Why do we have such vivid memories of insignificant moments?

This is something that has always intrigued me. Why does the brain sometimes hold on to details or moments that seem completely insignificant, while seemingly erasing memories of more meaningful or important events?

For instance, I can vividly remember a casual conversation in a car from ten years ago or what I was wearing on a random day when nothing special happened. Yet, memories tied to significant family or professional events are often blurry or even non-existent.

Could this be linked to emotions felt at the time, even if they weren’t obvious? Or is it more about how the brain filters and stores information?
I’m curious to know if others have noticed the same thing and if you have any ideas or explanations for this phenomenon!
