The clock is ticking
Akeeba Backup 8 will stop receiving updates for non-security issues when Joomla 5.0 is released. According to the current Joomla release plan this will happen in October 2023. Furthermore, it will not support any PHP version beyond 8.1 since Joomla 3 itself does not support them. Availability of security updates is contingent on our access to older versions of PHP and their support by our build tools. We expect to be unable to provide security updates for Akeeba Backup 8 after November 2024 when PHP 8.1 becomes End of Life.
Moreover, we will NOT be providing a migration path from Joomla 3 to Joomla 5 for any of our software. Upgrading a Joomla 3 site to Joomla 5 will require upgrading it to Joomla 4 first.
