V1.7 Anybody knows when to expect Prestashop 1.8? what could be the new features?

The next major version will be Prestashop 8.0.0
85% is complete and it is expected for release late 2021 / early 2022. But I it will probably be a bit delayed.

The next version, the V8 is a major, and this is why: in an effort of innovation and technological attractiveness, the update of the techno (PHP8 and Symfony 4.4) imposes the passage to the numbering of version in 8.x.x. This is not a breakthrough version unlike passage 1.6 -> 1.7, but a version in the continuity of the work in progress on 1.7. Therefore, there will be no need for a complete overhaul to migrate. The version number changes, but the difficulty of upgrading to 1.7.8 and 8.0.0 will be as easy as upgrading from 1.7.7 to 1.7.8. We also take the opportunity to remove the 1 and respect Semver.

It sounds more realistic. Specally for a stable version.

No, the most important info is the compatibility with PHP8. Prestashop is very much behind in this regard. Obsolete PHP versions, on big shops and with a CMS supposed to be high performance,... If all the big shops go to Magento, it’s partly because of that. Prestashop 8 will set the record straightThank you all for your answers. Really interesting.

What would you say about the performance of Prestashop compared to Magento?
I looked into this many many years ago, and then Magento needed more server resources.
I'm pretty new to Prestashop, and I often get surprised how unsophisticated modules are coded. If I inactivate a feature in a module, it may still loads in the background upon a customers visit to the webshop.
Like WordPress, Prestashop is very accessible and simple to use for thousand users. So with this simplicity, we have lot of module's "devs". Good devs and... bad devs. Like Wordpress.
Magento is "by dev for dev". About the server resource, nop, with big shops (so thousands products, customers and lot of modules), PS need more server resources.
But whether it’s Prestahsop or Magento, you need a dedicated server. That’s the minimum.

I don't know. Version 2.4.5 of Magento will arrive mid-2022 and it will be a nice update. Since the acquisition by Adobe, Magento has become more and more efficient (by way of Adobe, it's a real war machine, by way of the open-source distribution, and if you are a developer, you will always be above Prestashop).
Prestashop 1.8 will be release (perhaps) at the end of 2022 and I hope with a newer version of Symfony that will bring, in addition to PHP 8, better performance in managing pages and products
But I repeat: Prestashop and Magento are not intended for the same needs and the same people. One will be easier to use and is mainly aimed at small and medium-sized shops, while the other is aimed at experienced users and the management of several thousand products
