Prestashop for large catalogue, woocommerce for medium/small catalogue.
I really like woocommerce for the infinite and easy to do customization, u can also do it with prestashop but it is a little bit more complicated in my opinion.

Prestashop is good for large catalogue. Especially if you can get module that can handle bulk product management. Open cart is a little bit complicated in product photo management. wocommerce is good for small catalogue product.

For many years: Opencart. Now Prestashop (although it requires a lot of modules to work well, in the latest version).

Prestashop for middle sized e-shops. I disagree with @broxit as it can handle more than 10k products smoothly. I tested on 40K and it is a disaster in terms of mysql performances. But, you can tweak it

Prestashop, but you need some extra help if you want to bulk edit large number of products. Store Manager is the best for this but too expensive.

Woocomerce for a small/little ecommerce. With many products it is not affidable.
I suggest prestashop for small/medium ecommerce.
For big website ecommerce (+ 30000 producta and many visitors) I prefer Magento.

Prestashop for the overrides as it allows you to customise your code for mid/large scale datasets. Magento2 is too complex for entry/mid game shop

Prestashop is great but pretty slow in my opinion.
