i use magento for 6 years.
1. It is flexible
2. Magento has a wide range of features which allows us to manage multiple stores, and support multiple locations, multiple language, multiple pricing and multiple currencies. Compare Magento vs Shopify, vs Woocommerce, vs Volusion or any other e-commerce platform and it stands out with its abundance of features.

Magento vs Opencart is like comparing apples and oranges...It's not just 2 different cart systems.

Magento: Requires VPS or Cloud or Dedicated server = money
Opencart: Shared hosting is fine = cheap
Magento: Not for everyone because not everyone can install extensions with Composer. Can you install and manage a Dedicated server? Cloud? Elasticsearch?
Opencart: Easy to use. Does not require users to be tech savvy.

Magento: Comes with a lot of options and includes Elasticsearch (Search is really important on a ecommerce website). Really a lot of FREE and usefull extensions on Magento Marketplace and Github (Just use Packagist to look for them). Regular updates with a Release schedule available on Magento/Adobe website.
Opencart: Slow updates. Less extensions and a lot of the most usefull ones are paid (Elasticsearch for example). Not as many as magento. You can find many extensions on Github (with the help of Packagist). They are easy to install.

If you are non-tech savvy and cannot invest in VPS or Cloud or Dedicated server: Opencart or a better option: Prestashop
You are ambitious, have money to invest in a good hosting system (SSD, 8/16GB RAM....), have a lot of products with a ton of options, complex shipping and payment options (restrictions....): Magento.
