We released a new version of REST ADMIN API with OAuth security, if you need more secure API, choose that version.

The opencart rest API allows for an almost unlimited set of possibilities for interfacing the opencart with your mobile app, web app, or other third party software.

This extension helps businesses reduce out of stocks and better handle their inventory.

• Available with OAuth 2.0 authentication.
• Request and response payloads are formatted as JSON.

It was added in 3.1.6 I think but some fixes were needed...
